The Maryland Cardiovascular Specialists team includes highly experienced, board-certified physicians and professional staff with specialized education and training in both cardiology and vascular medicine. All physicians have privileges at Saint Agnes Hospital.

The MCVS Team

Martin Albornoz, M.D.

Dr. Albornoz received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed fellowships in cardiology at the University of Southern California and Georgetown University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Albornoz is the assistant director of the cardiac catheterization lab at Saint Agnes Hospital and specializes in radial catheterization and radial STEMI intervention. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish.

Jeffrey Cole, M.D.

Dr. Cole received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and specializes in coronary artery disease, preventive cardiology and clinical research. Dr. Cole has been a senior attending physician of cardiology a Saint Agnes Hospital since 1980. He previously served as president of the Saint Agnes Physician Hospital Organization and as a site director for clinical research studies in congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation and hyperlipidemia. He is a die-hard Ravens fan.

Vineet Dua, M.D.

Dr. Dua received his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical College and a fellowship in cardiology at University of Rochester Medical Center. He specializes in non-invasive cardiology, nuclear cardiology and cardiac CT. Dr. Dua is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In addition to English, Dr. Dua speaks Hindi. In his spare time, Dr. Dua enjoys running and spending time with his children.

Avinash L. Ganti, M.D.

Dr. Ganti received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery at Saint Agnes Hospital and a fellowship in vascular surgery at University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Ganti is medical director of the vascular screening program at Saint Agnes Hospital. He specializes in aneurysmal disease, carotid occlusive disease, peripheral arterial disease, mesenteric and renal artery stenoses and management of dialysis access.

Russell Hillsley, M.D.

Dr. Hillsley received his medical degree from Washington University in Saint Louis. He completed a residency and fellowship in cardiology at Duke University. He specializes in pacemakers, defibrillators, syncope, cardiac arrhythmias and radio frequency ablation. Dr. Hillsley has enjoyed working at Saint Agnes since 1996.

Carlos Ince, M.D.

Dr. Ince received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and his master’s degree in clinical investigation from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. He completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency and fellowship in cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Ince is Chief of Cardiology at St. Agnes Hospital.  He specializes in echocardiography, coronary CT angiography and preventive cardiology.  Dr. Ince previously served a two-year term as the president of the Association of Black Cardiologists, an international organization with a mission to eliminate health care disparities in underserved patient populations. He is also an inductee of the Saint Agnes Healing Hands Society.

Frederick Kuhn Jr., M.D.

Dr. Kuhn received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at Georgetown University. Dr. Kuhn is director of the echocardiography lab at Saint Agnes Hospital. He specializes in non-invasive cardiac imaging and preventive cardiology, including cholesterol and hypertension management.

Raymond Plack, M.D.

Dr. Plack received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School Of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency as well as a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Plack is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and board certified in internal medicine, general cardiology, and interventional cardiology. Dr. Plack specializes in interventional cardiology and general consultative cardiology.

Stephen Plantholt, M.D.

Dr. Plantholt received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at United States Public Health Service Hospital and Saint Agnes Hospital. He specializes in clinical cardiology. Dr. Plantholt previously served as chief of cardiology at Saint Agnes Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Richard Pomerantz, M.D.

Dr. Richard Pomerantz received his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Pomerantz is chairman of the Department of Medicine at Saint Agnes Hospital. Prior to Saint Agnes, Dr. Pomerantz spent 19 years on the academic faculty of the University of Rochester Medical Center as a professor of medicine, clinical chief of cardiology and director of the fellowship training program in cardiovascular diseases.

Matthew Voss, M.D.

Dr. Voss received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale University. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Colorado. He completed additional training in interventional cardiology at Brown University. Dr. Voss is chief of the cardiac catheterization lab at Saint Agnes Hospital. He specializes in complex angioplasty and transradial cardiac catheterization. In his free time, Dr. Voss and his wife enjoy physical fitness, traveling and equestrian sports.

David Wang, M.D.

Dr. Wang received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Systems and Baltimore VA Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Wang specializes in coronary disease, heart failure, heart rhythm abnormalities, hypertension and preventive cardiology.

Donald K. Wilkerson, M.D.

Dr. Wilkerson received his medical degree from Washington University Medical School. He completed an internship and residency in general surgery and a fellowship in surgical research at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been published in several medical journals for his cardiovascular research.

Shannon Winakur, M.D.

Dr. Winakur received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As medical director of the Saint Agnes Women’s Heart Center, Dr. Winakur tackles heart disease – the number one cause of death among women – on a daily basis. Dr. Winakur developed the center’s highly personalized care in the spirit of Saint Agnes Hospital’s Red Dress Sunday, an innovative faith-based outreach program designed to raise awareness of heart disease among women. Through screenings, prevention and education, Dr. Winakur and the Saint Agnes Women’s Heart Center are helping women live long, informed and heart-healthy lives.

Heart Health Assessment at the Saint Agnes Women’s Center Women’s Heart Center screenings are designed to be a proactive step in identifying both normal and abnormal results for any woman over the age of 18. The Heart Health Assessment takes approximately one hour and includes the following:

    • A comprehensive risk assessment.
    • A one-on-one review of the assessment’s results with a registered nurse.
    • Personalized education and resources based on your results.
    • An electrocardiogram and lab work, including total cholesterol and A1C, which measures average blood glucose levels. Results of these tests are mailed to you with additional recommendations based on the results.

Kabir Yousuf, M.D.

Dr. Kabir Yousuf received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Christiana Care Health System and a fellowship in cardiology at Wright State University. Dr. Yousuf specializes in preventive cardiology, nuclear cardiology and cardiac CT angiography. In his spare time, Dr. Yousuf enjoys riding his bike, playing basketball and spending time with his four children.

Michael A. Zatina, M.D.

Dr. Michael Zatina received his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed a residency in surgery at the University of Chicago and a vascular fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Zatina has worked at Saint Agnes since 1992. He previously served as chairman of the Department of Surgery and director of the Surgical Residency Program. Dr. Zatina has always enjoyed helping surgical trainees develop into surgical leaders. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his wife of almost 30 years, Katie, and their daughters Kristen, Jennifer and Caroline.

Jennifer Sheely, P.A.

Jennifer Sheely received a master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology from James Madison University and a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Towson University. In her spare time, she enjoys being outside and training for marathons and triathlons.
